Kitesurfing Lessons in Sardinia: Learn to Kitesurf in Cagliari, Villasimius, Chia, Porto Botte, Punta Trettu
So, Cagliari and Poetto beach are perfect for any sailing sport including kitesurfing.
Villasimius is one of the most beautiful Sardinia tourist destinations of Sardinia because of crystal waters, sandy beaches and the windy spots.
The main kite spots of Villasimius are Campulongu, Porto Giunco and Simius Playa. You can move from one to another spot (all spots all have a sandy bottom) depending on the wind direction.
During the summer season (from June to mid-September), due to the lack of kitesurf lanes and big number of bathers, for kitesurfing, it is required a boat support (Kitesurfing lift service).
Kitesurfing in Chia
The beach of Chia has a large wind exposure. Usually, north-east, south-west, east and south winds bring nice waves.
During the summer season (May to August), during the hot and sunny days, a thermal wind is blowing (often it can reach an intensity of 20 knots).
Like in Villasimius, also in Chia, during the summer season (from June to mid-September), due to the lack of kitesurf lanes and big number of bathers, for kitesurfing, it is required a boat support (Kitesurfing lift service).
Kitesurfing in Porto Botte
Porto Botte is a bay which lies to the south of Sant€™Antioco island and to the north of Porto Pino beach.
Porto Botte, outstanding with Mistral that blows side-on with flat water, is suitable both beginners and expert riders because, even during the summer season, there are no bathers.
Kitesurfing in Punta Trettu
Punta Trettu, located in the municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu, lies to the north of the island of Sant ‘Antioco.
Punta Trettu is super for kite surfing with Sirocco and Mistral because shallow and flat water, even during the summer season, there are no bathers.
Sardinia, with the white sand beaches, its clear sea, its breathtaking nature, its culture and history, its clima and its traditions is one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean sea.
Whether you want to relax and enjoy nature, enjoy scuba diving or snorkeling in its clear waters, or to have kitesurfing, Sailing, Surfing, SUP, Bike, Sardinia is the ideal place.
Among the most charming places of whole Sardinia, the south of the Island holds a position of respect: Villasimius, Costa Rei, Geremeas, Cagliari, Pula, Chia, Teulata and Carloforte have nothing to envy to the most famous Costa Smeralda in the north of the Island.
A must for any Holidays in Southern Sardinia is Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. Cagliari, in fact, is one of the centers of Sardinia with more services and it is the basis of several low cost airlines, including Ryanair and Easyjet: for those reasons Cagliari is easily reacheble in by flying from many European cities (eg London , Edinburgh , Paris, Brussels, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Geneva, Basel, Zurich, Berlin, Basen, Dussendorf, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Kaunas, Oslo, Krakow, Moscow , Milan, Rome).
In Sardinia and Cagliari, two are the prevailing winds: Mistral (blowing from the North-West) and Sirocco (blowing from South-East). In addition, in Cagliari, in the hot and sunny days (usually from April to October), a local thermal wind (sea breeze) is blowing reaching often an intensity of more than 15 knots. Finally Cagliari has a very high percentage of days with winds over 10 knots.
As you can see from the graph and the table here below, the best season for a Sardinia holidaysdedicated to kite surfing or sailing runs from March to Noveber: temperatures are milder and the number of sunny and windy days is very high.

Kiteboarding is 80% kite control.
The first step in learning basic kite control is flying a small size kite that will accelerate your learning curve and shorten the time it takes you to get on the board. During step1 (land lesson) of kitesurf beginner course, you will learn:
1. Theory – Understanding the goals, the process, and the lingo needed to communicate. Learn to choose a location, evaluate wind direction, and understand the wind clock.
2. Setting up the Equipment – How to handle the kite and lines from set-up to launch. Learn the difference between bow kites, c-kites, and 5-line kites.
3. Pre-Flight Check – All the tips you will need to never forget to check everything before launch.
4. Assisted Launches – Learn to launch and land with an assistant and the role of both the pilot and the assistant.
5. Kite Control – Proper methods of using the control bar and steering the kite, including adjusting the power and de-power of the kite.
6. Power Intake – Complete understanding of the wind window. Once kite control is established you will learn exact kite placement to either create power by flying the kite into the power zone, or reduce power by flying the kite to the edge of the window.
7. Use of all safety systems, including quick releases.
8. Dry water starts – Performing simulated water starts on land under-powered to see the steps and build muscle memory.
Step2 and Step 3: Kitesurf Water Lessons
After you have mastered the kite skills with a small kite sized, you are ready to take the water lesson on a full sized inflatable kite.
In our water lesson, you will learn how to body drag, upwind body drag, water re-launch, self rescue, and water-start onto the board (often the students add one or two more private water lessons onto their learning progression to specifically master the board skills).
Step2: First Water Lesson
During the first water lesson (step2) of kitesurf beginner course, you will improve:
9. kite piloting with power,
10. One handed kite piloting, body dragging hooked in to your harness.
11. Body dragging hooked in to your harness going upwind.
12. Body dragging hooked in to your harness, holding the board, getting used flying the kite and controlling the board at the same time €“ water starting.
13. Self rescue.
Step3: Second Water Lesson
During the second water lesson (step3), you will improve:
14. Getting up on the board and riding away.
15. Perfecting your water re-launching techniques.
16. Right of way rules.
Suggested schedule for the Kitesurfing Lessons for Beginners (Kitesurfing Course)
Step1 (land Lesson, skills 1 to 8);
